...best school ever! In all my years after graduating from Highland Park High School and College (NIU) I have yet to see or hear of a more well-rounded liberal minded and traditionally respected high school than Highland Park High School. It provided academically challenging, hard work with a very diverse-minded staff as well as student population all which included quick trips to the Indiana Dunes as well as the opportunity to travel to England with the school's drama department. Don't get me wrong, I loved college and graduated with a degree in Journalism as well as being chosen to be the Graduate Assistant for the Journalism Department. These experiences, accomplishments and the like, have all served me well throughout ... but oh, my H.P.H.S. what a great start to a full and happy life -- Just thought you'd like to know! Great school. Very liberal minded. A tad segregated. It might be hard for people to move here not knowing anyone but no matter who you are (LGBT, black, white, women, etc) you will be accepted by the students and staff. Outstanding fine arts and music departments. Really good English and social studies departments. Math and science departments are weak. Counseling department and special education are heavily strong as well.
